Part I

1 K, here’s your ride.
2 Get your petals out and lay them in the aisle
3 Pretend you garden grows,
4 And it’s your own day to wed
5 We’ve found your man.
6 He’s drinking up. He’s all-American,
7 and he’ll drive.
8 He’s volunteered with grace to end your life
9 and tidy up.
10 It’s sad to hold, but leave your shell to us
11 You explode, you firefly, you tiny boat with oars,
12 Feather oars
13 The world tilts back and pours and pours
14 And so, you satellite, you tidal wave,
15 You’re a big surprise
16 And I’ve one more night to be your mother.”

2005—K. Flynn was at a wedding in which she was attending as a flower girl. (Lines 2 – 4)

After the wedding K. Flynn and her family road in a Limousine (Line 1)

While riding down the wrong side of a 2 mile stretch, a drunk driver smashed into the front of the limousine the Flynn Family was in. (Line 5-9)
Katie Flynn was decapitated on impact. (Line 10)

Katie’s mother, now bears feelings that no one should feel. (lines 10-16)

And so you satellite (came around), you tidal wave (crashing down)

Part II

1 This signal interrupts
2 baby’s frequency not strong enough
3 Remain in my hands and smile.
4 “We will miss you but in time you’ll get settled
5 and we will write”

Katie’s mother cradled her severed daughters head until emergency vehicles and paramedics arrived. (Lines 1-3)
Lines 4-5 lead me to believe it’s about after she “settled” they decided to write this song.

Part III

1 beauty supreme.
2 Yeah, you were right about me.
3 But can I get myself out from underneath
4 This guilt that will crush me
5 and in the choir I saw our sad Messiah.
6 He was bored and tired of my laments.
7 Said, “I died for you one time, but never again”
8 Never again, never again, never again
9 Never again, never again, never again
10 Never again, never again… [continues in the background]

You were right to judge me, but this guilt I cannot bear. (lines 1-4)
And now I understand our sad Messiah, and why he’s tired of my grief and regrets (lines 5-6)
By his flesh and blood he could only forgive us once. (lines 7-10)

Part IV

1 Well I love you so much, but do me a favor baby, don’t reply.
2 ‘cause I can dish it out, but I can’t take it.
[x2]

3 One’ll love you so much, but do me a favor baby, don’t reply.
4 ‘cause I can dish it out, but I can’t take it.

5 Two’ll love you so much, but do me a favor baby, don’t reply.
6 ‘cause I can dish it out, but I can’t take it.

7 Three’ll love you so much, but do me a favor baby, don’t reply.
8 ‘cause I can dish it out, but I can’t take it.

9 Four’ll love you so much, but do me a favor baby, don’t reply.
10 ‘cause I can dish it out, but I can’t take it.

11 Five’ll love you so much, but do me a favor baby, don’t reply,
12 ‘cause I can dish it out, but I can’t take it.

13 Six will love you so much, but do me a favor baby, don’t reply.
14 ‘cause I can dish it out, but I can’t take it.

15 Seven loves you so much, but do me a favor baby, don’t reply.
16 ‘cause I can dish it out, but I can’t take it.
[x2]

17 Seven loves you so much, but do me a favor baby, don’t reply.
18 ‘cause I can dish it out, but I can’t take it.

            K. Flynn was 7 years old when she died. (Lines 1-18)

She was loved for her whole life (Lines 1-18)

Part V

[In background:]
(I’ll never have to buy adjacent plots of earth
We’ll never have to rot together underneath dirt
I’ll never have to lose my baby in the crowd
I should be laughing right now)
[x2]

(This is by the ending)

            Quite Literal
